Farm Name:
Indian Neck Farm

County:
Suffolk

Position Title:
Farm Field Crew

Position Description:

Indian Neck Farm is a 148-acre working farm on the North Fork of Long Island. Home to Indian Neck Organics, we grow and distribute a unique and limited variety of certified organic specialty vegetables.

Situated where Indians such as the Corchaug and Shinnecock tribes learned how to cultivate these arable soils and forage what was already abundant in the field, woods and along Little Neck Creek, today we continue to embrace practices of regenerative land management.

Crop rotation, no-till methods, and ethical land stewardship guide our Farm, balancing our knowledge of soil science with an intuitive understanding of the land.

Join us!

We are building a team who can commit to the 2021 growing season, from May-November, with the possibility to continue into the winter months. Must possess grit and a dedication to learning about the dynamic practices of growing organic food.

Farm Field Crew

This role focuses on the planting, maintenance and harvesting of our crops, as well as the processing of the produce from field to delivery. The season begins with bed making, seeding, transplanting, straw mulching and cultivation. After harvest, we will sort, wash, weigh, package, and prepare for distribution to our community. We grow different crops that peak all year, therefore these tasks will continue throughout all months. This is a hands-on learning position, and while experience is welcomed, dedication to daily tasks, ability to work in all weather conditions, and a positive mentality are the primary requisites. Must also be able to lift 50lbs consistently. Equipment operation preferred but not required.

Farm Crew Leader

Our Crew Leaders are required to have spent at least 1 full-year working as Field Crew on an organic farm. Must possess the experience and confidence to lead teams with integrity. This role will oversee the Field Crew daily tasks (as well as fully participate!) and report to the Farm Manager on team progress and goals. The ability to communicate effectively and lead by example are vital for this position. Must also be able to lift 50lbs consistently. Equipment operation experience required.

Equipment Operator

We use the latest cutting edge machinery in our plantings to grow and distribute top quality produce. Experience operating heavy equipment and knowledge of safety practices are required. Tractor use will be the primary focus with light mechanical responsibilities. Other tasks will include flame weeding, drilling cover crops, greenhouse renovation, and driving delivery trucks.
