The Director of Agriculture will serve as the primary steward of Sky High’s agricultural principles and practices as they relate to our organizational mission and vision; not only increasing access to fresh food as a response to food security, but also ensuring alignment with and guidance of sustainable and regenerative farming models and innovative practices.

Sky High Farm is a nonprofit organization working to increase access to fresh, nutritious, locally produced food while investing in collaborative long-term solutions for food security. Sky High is committed to sustainable farming practices and direct donation of 100% of food produced on the farm. Sky High reaches beyond conventional philanthropy, collaborating with a diverse and inspiring network of fashion brands, artists, and designers to generate resources that sustain our work locally and cultivate awareness around food justice and sustainability worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:
Guide and support all practices and steps for Sky High’s regenerative agricultural activities.

Oversight of all farm staff and fellows; collaboration with and supervision of Garden Manager and Livestock Manager in execution of their respective work scopes and adoption of promising and innovative agricultural practices.

This position will work directly with the Board of Directors and COO for all strategic decision-making, including defining programmatic opportunities, strategic partnerships and active resource mobilization / grant seeking.

The Director of Agriculture will be a public-facing representative of Sky High and should be prepared to engage colleagues and partners in substantive dialogue around farm practices and potential collaborations, as well as participate in meetings with stakeholders, relevant professional conferences and hosting visitors to the farm.

This position will be required to establish routine reporting for all farm activities, including the farm budget, monthly activity snapshots, annual reports and provide inputs for external communication, such as newsletters, the web and on social media.

The Director of Agriculture will work closely with the COO to expand existing outreach and programs, design new initiatives, and build organizational capacity by refining management structures and administrative practices.

This position will collaborate with the Livestock and Garden Managers on curriculum design and deployment.

The Director of Agriculture will work with the COO to manage and expand Sky High’s existing Farm Fellowship program.

This job description synthesizes key responsibilities but does not necessarily capture all applicable job duties. As with the nature of farm work, adaptability is essential; Sky High’s priorities involve the production of food for food insecure New Yorkers, as such, the shifting of resources may require temporarily refocusing efforts in one area of the farm to achieve that mission.
