NOFA-NY joins the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition for Annual Meeting and Farm Bill Lobby Day

From January 29 to February 1, 2024, the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) hosted its annual meeting and lobby day in Washington D.C.. NOFA-NY representatives met with staff from the offices of Senator Gillibrand, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, Congressman Molinaro, and House Minority Leader Jeffries to advocate for a farm bill that builds a more resilient and equitable food system.

NSAC’s broad farm bill platform includes key reforms to nearly all chapters of the bill enabling members from different states to focus on the pieces that matter most to them and their representatives. One of the key requests that we carried to each meeting was to preserve NRCS conservation funding with a focus on climate adaptation and mitigation and to preserve nutrition assistance programming. Both of these vital pieces of the farm bill are under threat by a harmful proposal to move funding to commodity programs that primarily benefit the country’s largest commodity farms. Join our call to protect this vital funding by signing this petition to members of our northeast delegation.

NOFA-NY’s Katie Baildon, and Wes Gillingham, were joined by Leah Kabran Eden, Executive Director and Co-founder of NY Equity Advocates, and Ariana Taylor-Stanley, Grassroots Co-Director for NSAC (and also a NY farmer) for their visits to Congressional offices.
