Urge the Senate to Protect Food Security and Farm Resilience

In May, the House passed a damaging budget bill (the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill”) that would sever food assistance for millions of Americans while investing billions in industrial agriculture and neglecting key investments in local food systems and farm resilience.

This week, the bill has moved to the Senate, and as debate continues, our Senators need to hear from us about how this bill would damage our communities. Please call today!

My name is [your name], and I am a resident of New York and a constituent of Senator [Gillibrand/Schumer]. I am calling to urge you to oppose the “One Big Beautiful Bill” act, which funnels money away from those who need it most, up to the richest few, and weakens our democracy. Today, I am specifically addressing the detrimental impacts this bill would have on food-insecure New Yorkers and New York’s farming communities.

  • Deep funding cuts and work requirements added to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will increase hunger by restricting access to nutrition assistance for an estimated 3 million Americans. These cuts will also eliminate dependable markets for farmers, which help them feed their communities affordably.
  • NY’s farms, which are mostly small and medium-sized, will experience reduced access to programs that offer support for climate-resilient farming practices, while large agribusinesses will benefit from increased subsidies.
  • Neglect of programs supporting local and regional food infrastructure will hinder community resilience and local economies, harming local farmers and the communities that rely on their products.
  • Massive investments in detention and deportation will target immigrant communities, especially undocumented farm workers who make up nearly 40% of the people who work to feed us.
  • Removing the ability for federal courts to enforce their orders would weaken our democracy and enable corporate and political abuses of power.

Please represent my interests, and thank you for relaying my message to the Senator.
